artist presentation

here are some of my artworks done during my foundation year at tyler.

this is the bottle slip casting, and i manipulated it so it looks like monster bottles.

one page from my folio from my 2d class this semester. i thought the colors came out good

isolate & repeat

messing around with the scanned objects and rearranging them. somehow this just became more of a pattern... i think i like the 3rd one.. because it's kinda corny but i kinda like it. i think first one is interesting, because i was kinda going for a place, and 2nd one... must purely pattern... ;;>> i blame 2d foundation class for this... =/ i'm looking for suggestion to what i can change and some different angle i should start this from..

exaggeration

finally we got to photoshop project!
so for this assignment we have to draw exaggerated picture and using 5 layers. it's just to explore the photoshop tools and such.

i did this drawing, because last weekend i was really sick and my throat felt like it was all scratched up and puffed up. so it was painful and i didn't get anything done last weekend. i remember i doodled something like this before and i thought it portrayed my feelings when i was sick and stuff like that. i do mostly cartoon/anime style drawings on photoshop too. you can see that on my deviantart site. i guess this one is somewhat recent one i did on photoshop all done in photoshopi thought this was somewhat brings memory. i did this one in high school in photoshop class. that was fun class. the assignment was to create dvd cover, fake one at that. all the drawings are done by me, i did outline in paper and colored it in photoshop.

midterm assignment

well here is the images i used for my final project.

whenever i get the images from nat bard, i'll post my final thing. what i wanted to make was this book where people can draw on top of the images and then slide the part that they drew, and see all the different parts they drew in together to make a different image. in a way it plays with the memory, where some people can't remember certain parts of the people's faces or create a different persona using different parts from other people. so it's kinda interactive fun thing i made. i wish i could have done better job on it, but it was something new i did so it didn't come out as nice as i thought it'd. if i get the time to or chance to i'll remake one and see how that one turns out to be.

pattern

just posting the pattern i used in my self portrait. i put watermark, because it was pain to make this pattern, and i don't want anyone to steal it ~.~

here are the finished one for my self portrait. the first one is tracing over top of a photo, and the bottom is the one i changed over. i used my own home made patterns. they were fun to play around with. i guess i'll upload the original pattern later. in illustrator the details in the pattern got simplified.. i should have made the patterns in illustrator. anyways, i guess for the 2nd one, i just wanted to just make almost everything purple, purple is my favorite color. i thought it'd be interesting to see me with out glasses. i have been wearing glasses for almost little over 10 years now. i might get contacts later on so that should be interesting. i thought what if i had blue/purple hair. i really want to dye my hair some different color, i usually dye it like different shades of brown, and i tried to dye my hair blond one time. that didn't turn out right. so i think i might wait till i find a good place to do my hair, or go visit korea again and do my hair there or something. i guess i put a fan in there because originally i was holding uno cards, but they looked like fans. i like those hand held fans, they are pretty cool and amazing. i think i might have over done with the patter, but i like it. i think i added the hair piece in there, simple shape, but i think it'd have been better then using the pattern or like the one i tried to use in my works in process one. the hair was kinda hard to figure out, i mean i tried to add in the highlights and dark parts, but i think having it might give more distraction? i'm not sure, but not having anything, makes it interesting i think. it kinda balances with the whole busy background and fan with the simple plain surface of the hair. i think overall i did alright job on it.

i think i'm kinda pushing my self portrait a bit far but i like it so far hehe

letting some frustration out....

i had a hard time thinking what to do when
i was doing the text project
well, when i starting off i used this song
and when i was heard the song before, with out the lyrics
and not paying attention to it at all... i didn't
realized that it was a bit sad song. also i did't like the way
texts and vector shapes match, because i used happy theme for it.
i tried to making another one, but it didn't look right and out of the three tries with this song
i just gave up and started fresh with a new song. i was just
frustrated with this project, because i have this such mind that i
didn't want to loose all the text, or create something that doesn't
really relate at all, and there was one part where, i tried to incorporate
the text and the ideals i came up with just became
what it suppose to
look like from the text layer. well hopefully the next project won't
be as frustrating as this one.
this one is just the one i had saved... so i'm just posting it to show i guess...
i like some parts of the smiling faces, but i don't like the center piece at all.
i guess i need more practice with using text into my illustrator projects or just play around with it.

it's really good series and sad, but good.
i only used one line from this song,
but i like the song by the fact that i can relate to myself as a kid
and how i imagined myself if i had wings
or playing fantasy games with friends and siblings.
jelly fish...
i guess in a way jelly fish doesn't really have a
solid body and it's translucent look has the mystic creature
feeling to it. i guess in a sense i don't know what my future
is like, i'm just kinda going along with it in a way.
i'll just float around or just follow whatever i think
it's right for me at a right moment i guess.

anyways... we had to make triptych for computer class. i decided or actually dedicated to my computer teacher nat bard. thus if you look closely at the t-shirt, it says bard 4 teh win

and here is fixed version of my still life.

i need to fix some parts in the bard one, so i'll make another post after i'm done fixing it.

illustrator exercise

Well finally we got to use illustrator today. I haven't done anything with illustrator in a while, but I think it came out alright. I could have done much better job with it, but I'll save it to do better or whenever I feel like making it better.

the truth, the lie, and the comedy

Okay, today in class we told truth, lie and something funny about ourselves. Of course it was really embarrassing and all, but it was okay. I feel as though I could have done a better job or worse, but I should personally thank my friend Sarah. She helped me with the funny part, because I suck at retelling the jokes. I usually make them worse in some ways. Anyways I'll post more about the truth, lie and comedy soon. I need to take some pictures of the things I had and some funny pictures to make up the lack of visual presentation on blog.

Anyways, my name is Min-Jung. My friends usually call me MJ or Min for short.
I'm not much of a blogging person or write a dedicated journal.
So this blog should be interesting in general, well that's what I'm hoping for anyways.
So about myself,
I'm Korean, born in South Korea in 1988. My family moved to America in the summer of 1998.
It was an interesting experience learning a new language from scratch and meeting strangers who I did not understand at all.
I have an older sister and younger brother. (interesting fact, well depends on if you think it's interesting. my sis is 3 years older then me and my bro is 3 year younger then me)
anyhow...
my favorite color is purple
music, i'll listen to almost anything except for country music or heavy rap music. For some odd reason it just annoys me... especially the country music.. ;;>>

and I have habit of making this --> ;;>> a lot online...
